Fall Into Formation

A testimony from the Overflow Devotional — Fruit Focus: LOVE
“Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” — John 4:14
It started with a few days on love.
A dear friend of mine had only read the first days of this devotional when she wrote back to me — and in one message, she captured the very essence and heart of what God is birthing through Overflow. We are being formed into what He always intended us to be.
While the enemy whispers lies and attacks us to steal our inheritance, these fruits are not just a result of spiritual growth — they are part of what we receive as God's family. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22–23) are not trophies we earn. They are our inheritance.
This is why I have to pause and remember who I am. To fix my heart on the only thing that matters: that I am being formed into His image. And let me be honest — formation looks ugly sometimes. It reveals things in us we don't like. The flesh craves its old habits and mindsets; it carries pride and hurts. But once we allow true formation to take place, our spirit is elevated to a whole different level. “The mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace” (Romans 8:6).
Just yesterday, I was about to reach out to her and ask if she'd had time to start the book — and right on cue came the lie of the enemy: “Leave people alone. Don't expect your friends to support everything you put out. They see it as you trying a side hustle.”
The enemy is a liar.
I had to pause and remember: God chose me for this project because of His love for all of us. And where we are headed, we will need the fruit to get through the warfare we will have to endure. So I got back in the Word, stood firm, and got obedient about stewarding what He gave us — a whole day fine-tuning the website, updating the free curriculum for groups and churches, finishing the things I had been procrastinating on.
Sister, hear me: the enemy is mad. Every time you allow yourself to disciple another woman — whether it is one person or twenty, it is all the same to him — you are a threat to his kingdom. It's a “hell lost another one” moment. Every time you give your yes to minister to another woman, you are stealing from him. You rob him of future generations.
You signed up to be boots on the ground. And you know what that means? Put on the armor. And what do soldiers do after they suit up? They fall into formation.
Nine words. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Words we hear often but rarely dive deep into. That is what Overflow is for: let's dig deep in the well until it bursts through and overflows. And once the well fills, we have to keep giving it away — that is how the overflow stays alive.
Thank You, Jesus. 🙏🏻
Pause & Reflect
- What lie has the enemy been whispering about your calling — and what does the Word say instead?
- Where is God forming you right now, even in the places that feel ugly?
- Who is one woman you can give your “yes” to this week?
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the spring You placed inside me. Teach me to recognize the liar's voice and answer it with Your Word. Form me into Your image — even when it reveals what I would rather hide. Suit me up, and set me in formation beside my sisters. Let my life overflow, and teach me to give it away. In Jesus' name, Amen.
